Early Years

California Miramar University (CalMU) was established in 2005, as recognized by both the California Post-Secondary Education Commission and the university itself.

That same year, CalMU purchased the assets of Pacific Western University (PWU), including its State of California approval status. The acquisition required PWU to relocate to San Diego and teach out active students over 18 months.
By early 2007, these requirements were fulfilled, the state approval was officially transferred to CalMU, and PWU ceased operations. Later that year, CalMU applied for accreditation.

During accreditation, the agency determined that PWU and CalMU were distinct institutions with different standards. Graduates of PWU could not receive CalMU diplomas, and records were to be maintained separately.

To comply, CalMU transferred PWU student records to Education Services, which now serves as custodian of records for former PWU students.
