Frequently Asked Questions

Yes! CMU offers a 100% On-Line Option. Students can access their course work 24/7, eliminating inconvenient class times or working around someone else’s schedule.
- When does a new semester start? What is the class schedule?
CMU offers year round enrollment, which means you never have to wait for a new semester to start! Courses enroll year round. Distance education allows you to create your own schedule. That means that you decide what time of day to read a chapter in your textbook or what time of night to review an assignment. You are completely in control of your schedule so you are guaranteed to never have a scheduling conflict with work, family or social life.

Wherever the military takes you, CMU will be there!
- How long do I have to complete a class? How long will it take to graduate?
Courses can be completed in approximately five to eight weeks. The majority of our students finish their program in a similar length of time, although you can adjust this length to fit your personal schedule and educational goals: Students in the Associate Degree Program usually graduate in 18 months (1 ½ years), Bachelor's in 48 months (4 years), and Master's usually finish in 15 months. If you need longer to complete your degree, the maximum program length is one-and-a-half times the program length.
- What do I do if I need longer to finish a course or complete my program?
We realize that special circumstances can conflict with a student's educational schedule. Therefore, if you experience a personal emergency or unplanned conflict, please let us know. All of the staff in the Office of Academics are here to help you. We will require a written request so that we can officially grant you an extension or leave of absence.
What courses will I be taking?
The required courses for each program of study can be found in the CMU Course Catalog. To request a free copy of the catalog, please contact us at 858-653-3000. - Could I transfer credits from another school?
Yes, CMU accepts transfer credits from recognized accredited colleges and/or universities. Requests for transfer credit will be considered on a case-by-case basis. To request transfer credit, students must submit transcripts for the courses the student desires to transfer during the enrollment process. You then have 90 days to submit official transcripts. The maximum units allowed by CMU are as follows: 60 units for undergraduate bachelors programs and 6 units for graduate programs.
- I have taken CLEP and DANTES exams. Will I receive credit?
CMU recognizes that students complete prior learning by a variety of ways outside of the traditional classroom setting. We accept a full range of College-Level Examination Programs such as CLEP® and DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSST). These program exams measure mastery of college-level course content in a wide range of disciplines. Students who obtain the credit-granting score required can transfer those credits into our programs. For more information visit The College Board.
