The Admissions Process

Step 1: Application
Complete an application for admission here. The application fee is $25 for undergraduate programs, $40 for masters programs, and $60 for Doctorate programs. The application allows you to tell us about your past education and current education goals. Plus, CMU does not require standardized tests for admission, so there is nothing to stop you from applying today! If you prefer to mail or fax your application with check or money order, download the application here. English Language Requirement
Undergraduate Programs:
Applicants whose native language is not English and have earned a degree from an appropriately accredited institution where English is not the principal language of instruction must receive a minimum score of 500 on the paper-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL PBT), or 61 on the Internet Based Test (iBT), or a 6.0 on the International English Language Test (IELTS), or a minimum of Level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for languages (CEFR)
Graduate Programs:
Applicants whose native language is not English and who have earned a degree from an appropriately accredited institution where English is not the principal language of instruction must receive a minimum score of 530 on the paper-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL PBT) or 71 on the Internet Based Test (iBT) or 6.5 on the International English Language Test (IELTS) or Level C or B2 or their equivalence in the Common European Framework of Reference for languages (CEFR).
Doctorate Requirements:
Applicants whose native language is not English and who have earned a degree from an appropriately accredited institution
where English is not the principal language of instruction must receive a minimum score of 550 on the paper-based Test
of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL PBT) or 80 on the Internet Based Test (iBT) or 6.5 on the International English
Language Test (IELTS) or Level C or B2 or their equivalence in the Common European Framework of Reference for languages
(CEFR).
