CMU proudly highlights the recent achievements of CMU graduate Elda Mabusa, M.B.A. Class of 2010. We sat down with her to discuss her career plans now that she has earned her MBA in International Business at California Miramar University. She was thrilled to announce that thanks to the knowledge and experience gained through her studies at CMU, she has been hired as an International Relations Representative at Novi Industries Inc.
Elda is now responsible for travelling to Tanzania, Mexico, Nigeria, France, and countless other locations to educate the supervisors of various industries and political leaders to new technologies. "The people are thrilled to embrace rapidly evolving equipment for their particular industries, but we can't just go in there and introduce a new technology and expect them to know how to maintain it. It's my job to work with these organizations to train them to not only understand and operate new machinery, but to have the ability to repair it when things go wrong." Elda was quick to express her excitement about the CMU Hybrid MBA program, and how it has allowed her the opportunity to develop a career that she truly loves. "I am so pleased that I get to experience so many different cultures and see new faces on a daily basis. And with my field rapidly expanding, there are endless opportunities for growth within the company I work for."
While it is clear that with the help of her MBA degree, Elda has started her dream career, she admits that getting hired was no easy task. "I went on countless interviews while I attended CMU, often several a week without hearing a response afterword. But I learned that persistence is the key to getting your ideal position." Elda offered several effective tips for success when interviewing for competitive positions:
- Be ambitious, have a plan, and display confidence. You may not have as much experience as others who are applying for the position, but confidence can take you a long way.
- Send thank you notes to follow up with those who interviewed you. It acknowledges their time spent, and serves as a great follow up.
- Ask questions! Show interest in the company you hope to be working for. This shows the employer that you care about the company's objectives.
