Entire Web Site

If you are not referring to a specific idea, fact, or document contained within a website, you can cite the entire website by citing the URL of the website in parentheses within your paper. You do not need to put it in the reference list.

Example:

The Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) is a good source for locating scientific and scholarly open access journals.

Web Page

Referencing a web page is similar to citing an article.

You need to locate the author, publication date, and title of the web page. First list the author, then the publication date, and finally the URL. Punctuation should not be added after the URL since it might be mistaken for part of the web address.

Example:

The professors are well educated, imparting years of experience during class. The whole classroom environment is top of the line, from fellow students to the staff. I have pursued other MBAs from local San Diego universities but quit after a few weeks realizing the other universities are paper mill degree factory’s and could care less about the student. CMU on the other hand is the complete opposite; they care about you and work with you to attain your goals. I can’t reiterate the professionalism throughout the university enough. I have enjoyed CMU so much and respect the academic environment provided that I have enrolled in their Masters of Science Program. Additionally, CMU is extremely supportive of the military and tuition programs associated to include the VA.”

About Mountain Shadows Community Homes

The homes at Mountain Shadows are centered in a family-like atmosphere with the environment tailored to the individual residents’ personal choices and to encourage independence in activities of daily living.Mountain Shadows Community Homes is nestled in the foothills of Escondido and San Marcos, just north of the city of San Diego, California. Mountain Shadows currently is comprised of 18 individually licensed homes; 16 of which are located on a five acre campus in Escondido, and 2 community-based homes which are located in San Marcos. 17 of the homes are occupied by 6 residents, and 1 home has 15 residents living in it. Our homes operate under the licensing guidelines of the State of California’s Department of Health Services, and are designated as Intermediate Care Facilities for the Developmentally Disabled-Habilitative (ICF/DD-H). Our homes are surveyed annually by the Department of Health Services to help ensure they are in compliance with regulatory standards. Mountain Shadows provides 24-hour support to our residents in homes designed to allow them to live in a family environment. Each home has a living and dining area, kitchen, private or double bedrooms, bathrooms and laundry facility. The homes are designed so that whenever possible, residents are encouraged to participate in assisting with the activities of daily living: preparing their food, cleaning their home, washing their laundry, taking out the garbage, etc. The campus is also designed to facilitate active socialization of the residents with each other and employees; wheelchair friendly sidewalks lead from house to house, ramps are located where needed at entryways, etc. The two community based homes are located near community centers and a golf course. At Mountain Shadows, we believe that by enriching the lives of our residents we enrich ourselves. Our staff inspires residents to go beyond what has been accomplished and take on new challenges.

What happens in its external environment plays a large role in how a business both offers its products/services and plans for future growth. Some of the main external factors include:

Competition – How others companies in a business’ niche compete with its products/services.

Economic – How do the current economic conditions (i.e. the recent U.S. recession) play a role in a business’ strategy?

Social – How are the demographics of your niche changing, and what impact might this have on your business? How are behaviors and sentiments towards your niche evolving, and how will that change your strategy?

Political – How do changes in government policy, including new laws and regulations, impact how you operate?

Technological – How does evolving technology change your means of production? How do technological modes of marketing your product (i.e. social media) change your operations?

A business’ external environment is complex and constantly evolving. But paying attention to these factors and monitoring them on a regular basis is vital for future growth. If you don’t pick up on what’s happening around you and how it’s impacting you, both positively and negative, how will you react to market changes and be able to beat your competition in the long-term?

This video clips comes from one of our online MBA courses on strategic management from a highly qualified and nationally renowned professional in business sustainability. Ms. Petro is an Adjunct Professor with us at California Miramar University, a 2010 Outstanding Professor of the Year award recipient, and one of the reasons why our on-campus, Our online MBA programs and Hybrid MBA programs have just been recognized by the San Diego Business Journal as one of the Top 10 in San Diego County for the second year in a row!

Transcript of the Lesson

The firm’s external environment is comprised of the following components: the remote environment, the industry environment and the operating environment. That’s really the underpinnings of this entire chapter. Let’s talk about that remote environment. Again, here’s what it looks like: you have an organization impacted by three: remote, industry and operating. We’re going to start with that larger box – the remote environment – before we move inside.

When we’re coming up with opportunities and threats for an organization, because we’ve just talked about strengths and weaknesses, we’re going to be talking about economic factors. What is happening out there in the economic environment? Didn’t many organizations get caught on their strategy, not being able to implement it effectively during this last U.S. recession?

Then we’ve got social factors. Are you taking into consideration how the demographics of your country is changing, and what the impact could be on the products and services that you provide?

Political factors. There are some organizations, such as Biotech, that are impacted far more by politics and regulation than, let’s say, a service industry such as consulting.

Then you’ve got technology factors. Knowing what we know about the proliferation of technology and the desire for less technological obsolescence, what is that impact on how you deliver what you’re delivering? For instance, if you are a training organization and you’ve got demographics that say the next generation is coming up going, ”I don’t want to receive information that way;” you need to deliver it in a different way. It’s the technology factor that would come into play as well.

The value of an MBA cannot be overstated in today’s economy. According to The National Association of Colleges and Employers, the average first-year MBA graduate made between $50,000/year and $75,000/year right out of school. And that number rose to $90,000 for those in the workforce for a few years.

As a military serviceman or woman or a military spouse, there are a lot of reasons – including daily service and/or family responsibilities – that make getting an MBA seem impossible. However, with the prevalence of online MBA programs like the one we offer here at California Miramar University, those excuses are disappearing. In our world today, an online business degree doesn’t carry a negative stigma, especially when you’re talking about accredited online MBA programs like the one here at CalMU.

Some of the reasons why online MBA programs make sense for military personnel and military spouses:

Take Classes Wherever, Whenever– Ideal for a life on the go and a life full of responsibilities, you can earn an online business degree by taking classes on your schedule, not ours.

Maintain Responsibilities – You can still manage home and family responsibilities while studying to get MBA degree. You make it fit your busy life instead of sacrificing time with the kids or your spouse.

Cut Down Expenses – Gone are expenses such as gas, food, parking and school attire that are necessary when traveling to a college. There aren’t many extra expenses involved with sitting down at your computer.

Affordable Tuition – Thanks to programs such as Army College Tuition Assistance Program, the Montgomery GI Bill, the Department of Defense (DoD) Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts and National Guard Tuition Assistance, there are ways out there to fit each and every member of the military and their family. Here at CalMU, we offer Military Tuition Assistance educational benefits for our servicemen and women.

Instead of putting off your education another year for the same old reasons (time, responsibilities, money), realize that there are opportunities available to earn your online business degree through online MBA programs like the ones we offer. Take a look at the admissions policies, academic standards and much more at our website.

The hardest part about this is trying to condense their remarkable services for our Armed Forces in just one blog post. Founded in 1920, they are San Diego’s oldest and largest non-profit organization dedicated to easing the strains of military life for active duty military personnel and military families.

With over 40 programs focused on family bonding and support, helping the children of military families and strong social networking, the San Diego Armed Services YMCA helps over 9,000 active duty military servicemen and women and their families in San Diego every month. An exceptional organization, their steadfast and unwavering dedication in helping our troops has had and continues to have a very positive impact on the San Diego military community.

For servicemen and women that have been injured in training or combat or have fallen ill, they make it a priority to make life as easy and comfortable as possible. By fulfilling requests of patients in hospitals (i.e. bringing them books, video games, hobby project materials, toiletries, music and even just having someone show up to hang out and play some board games), their reach extends far beyond their main office.

For military families, the San Diego Armed Services YMCA Family Outreach Department offers in-home counseling for free. With everything from marriage counseling and personal counseling to educating parents on raising their kids and providing emergency supplies to families that are struggling financially, their support for military families is unparalleled.

For the children of military families – who are very vulnerable at such a young age because of constant change, having to move to different cities and complex family dynamics – their Youth and Community Outreach Department offers myriad programs aimed at helping military spouses and children.

Operation Kid Comfort is a program where volunteers make quilts for children ages 0-17, and has made over 4,000 quilts to date.

The Mom & Tots Program helps foster child development, family bonding and provides a support network for parents.

Operation Hero is a free after school program for children with either low confidence and self-esteem or those who have had a tough time adjusting to military life.

Camp Hero is a weeklong camp coming up from August 7-12 helping kids cope with the difficulties of military life while traveling to some beautiful San Diego parks and helping kids connect with each other.

Craft & Conversation Group is a weekly event where military spouses can connect with each other and discuss the struggles they’re facing. They also have a Kids Club to give military spouses the time and space they need to make this possible.

This is a look at some of the programs they offer, but just some; remember, they offer over 40 in sum. Their extensive volunteer network and dedication to not just active duty military servicemen and women, but also military spouses and children has created a palpable positive impact on the San Diego military community and we at California Miramar University are so proud of what they continue to accomplish.

We’ve gone to great lengths to support our troops and military families as well, as we are approved by the US Department of Veterans Affairs to offer GI educational benefits, offer Tuition Assistance. Our online MBA programs and Hybrid MBA programs are ideal for military servicemen and women, Veterans and military spouses to be able to earn an online business degree from wherever they are in the world, and be able to do so for a very affordable price.

That aside, however, we are so proud of our troops and their families and it is organizations like this that set the standard for military family bonding and outreach programs, and really highlights the importance of caring for our servicemen and women. Thanks you San Diego Armed Services YMCA for being such a role model and conduit for support for our troops. You are what makes San Diego such a wonderful place!

We’ve all seen them, whether having used them ourselves or having seen famous celebrities and athletes sport them on TV. Their international success is due in large part to the product’s groundbreaking nasal decongestant properties, which have helped it gain a strong foothold in its niche (kind of like Kleenex in the facial tissue industry).

Their effective treatment of congestion and popularity among athletes – particularly the National Football League – has helped them rise to popularity and expand into international markets. Breathe Right Nasal Strips are still very popular today, the go-to brand that people both consciously and unconsciously grab for over the competitors, and it is because they essentially created the market and are the trusted name in nasal decongestants. Their hold on the global marketplace is a great example for students of our online MBA programs and Hybrid MBA programs that business success is not rooted in complexity; rather, what entrepreneurs should do is find something that a lot of people need (i.e. nasal decongestion) create a product or service that is not already being offered (i.e. nasal strips), and find a vehicle for your product to be marketed and talked about in the mass media (i.e. Jerry Rice and other athletes).

Transcript of the Video

[Speaker 1]: We believe Breathe Right has great potential.
[Speaker 2]: Our product has appeal in many different markets.
[Speaker 3]: We look for where the biggest prize will be.
[Husband]: First ever decongestant more powerful than a stuffy nose, it’s Breathe Right nasal strips! Come on honey, my allergies keep me up every night; how is this gonna help?
[Wife]: The same way it helps my snoring every night.
[Narrator 1]: Until you try for yourself, it’s hard to believe the instant nasal congestion relief that comes from Breathe Right strips. Nasal congestion limits airflow; but Breathe Right’s patented reflex action gently lifts open nasal passages to help you get more air. Breather better, sleep better, with Breathe Right.
[Marti Morfitt, CEO, President and Director, CNS]: Inventor of the Breathe Right strip, Bruce Johnson, who had severe allergies and difficulties sleeping, had invented the Breathe Right nasal strip. Our Chairman, who is by training a neurologist, but by calling an entrepreneur, fell in love with the product, dropped everything, and he and a marketer and the inventor spent three years turning this product into a business.
[Dan Cohen, Chairman, CNS]: The inventor brought it into us, under the guise of, “Could you test it?” But he was really looking for somebody to license it. It was one of those nice, life insights, when you look at something and you know, “Hey, this is huge!” When we first began marketing the Breathe Right strip, what was so gratifying, particularly as a physician, were literally the thousands of letters and phone calls we received talking about how much better people slept at night. It was interesting that almost all the letters began with, “Thank you, thank you, thank you;” just three thank you’s, and it was, “I haven’t gotten a good night’s sleep like this in ten years.”
[Marti Morfitt]: The first few years were really all about testing, clinical testing; ensuring that the product worked; developing a basis for claims; getting FDA approval for that; and then taking it to market.
[Narrator 2]: The Breathe Right strip opens the nasal passage, making it easier to breathe through your nose. Pro football players discovered a way to enhance their game. The National Football League’s Herschel Walker was the first to use the strip in front of a national TV audience. San Francisco 49er superstar vide receiver, Jerry Rice, was next.
[Nick Naumann, Senior Marketing Communications Manager, CNS]: Jerry Rice, his utilizing the strips, really was a big PR generator for us. It got a lot of pick-up, both domestically and internationally, and one of the things we immediately did was contact his agent to sign him to become an endorser so we could use him in advertising, promotion and consumer trade promotion.
[Narrator 2]: With a significant amount of NFL players using the strips, CNS took advantage of the free publicity.
[Marti Morfitt]: The Company at that time had done a very effective job of getting press kits in the hands of news commentators and sports commentators and the sports press, so when the people on television were asking, “What is that funny-looking thing on his nose?” – The press reporters all had the answers and how it translated into an effective consumer product for the masses.
[Jerry Rice, Former Wide Receiver, San Francisco 49ers]: I’m looking forward to a great season and I think we have a team that can really go back to the Super Bowl.
[Narrator 2]: Breathe Right strips are used by athletes hoping to play their best; snorers hoping for a good night’s sleep; and allergies, sinus and cold sufferers looking for a drug-free relief from nasal congestion. All over the world, users have the same reaction!
[Kevin McKenna, Vice President, International – CNS]: I have to say that every time you have the opportunity to put a nasal strip on someone who’s never used it before – no matter what the country, no matter what the culture or the language – the response is always the same, and it’s in perfect English: “Wow!”

And it must take into consideration a whole variety of issues.

As a starting point, think about things that could go wrong. Almost everyone will have something pop up that is completely out of the blue. Taking those events into consideration involves some commonplace items.

Set up a savings account and put a little away every pay period. Perhaps start an investment strategy with a program that allows you to buy in small quantities.

Cover potential losses or other exposures with insurance on your home, goods and car(s).

Have enough life insurance to make sure that the rest of your family can survive if you or your spouse is not there.

But there are some other, much less painful things that you can plan for as well. If you are in the military, think ahead to the day when you will be out. Using the experience and education from Uncle Sam can be a valid asset as you start a new life, but there are likely some things that need to be added.

Consider online MBA programs. Augment your military training with coursework in marketing – not normally a talent taught by the Armed Services. Or add finance to your resume. As you and your spouse think through your plans for the future, dream big and make plans now for the long term career when you return to the civilian world.

An online business degree can give you the leg up that you will need when you leave, and can be accomplished while you are still on active duty. From the comfort of your home or base, online MBA programs can be exactly what you need to plan for your future outside the military. They are specifically designed to help you fill out an already impressive leadership resume with courses that will round out your knowledge and expertise.

We will help you plan ahead before that family emergency occurs when you unpack your duffle bag and ask, “What next?”

It’s not to promote war; it’s to be prepared for peace,” said President Ronald Reagan. Keeping this great notion in mind, we at California Miramar University have identified San Diego’s own USO San Diego for this week’s CalMU Small Business Spotlight Award.

They are dedicated to improving the life of US Armed Forces personnel and their families, having done so since 1941. They provide a sense of comfort in unfamiliar places to all Active Duty Military servicemen and women and their families. USO San Diego focuses on ensuring American Military men and women feel at home in San Diego and provide them with a sense of psychological and emotional security and stability. They are a non-profit organization with no government funding, but still do everything in their power to make our national heroes feel truly at home. With over 250 volunteers that help this great cause, they’ve been able totouch the lives of about 150,000 patrons every year.

They have 2 centers in San Diego: one is downtown and the other is their Neil Ash Airport Center. Their Downtown Center is the community chest, which accepts tax deductible donations. It is also the ticket distribution point that offers tickets to local sporting events, the theatre and other entertainment shows. The Neil Ash Airport Center, on the other hand, is the host location for new recruits and deploying units, and is the place where the homecoming takes place for Military men and women whose family was not able to greet them at the airport.

According to the USO, attendance at their Downtown Center is up by about 20%, owing much to economic constraints. About 300 people eat free dinners every Tuesdays. And aside from providing tickets to local events, they also facilitate the United Through Reading program, which enables deployed Military parents to be video-recorded and read stories aloud to their children, key in helping Military families with the separation of service. They hold special events for Easter, Mothers Day and Father’s Day, and host Halloween carnivals and Christmas gifts by Santa, just to name a few.

USO San Diego is a truly remarkable organization and is one of the reasons support for our troops is so important. They work to make life and separation easier for those who dedicate their lives to our country. We at California Miramar University are inspired by and very grateful to our troops, which is why we are VA Approved to offer GI Bill educational benefits, accept Military Tuition Assistance and offer a 50% Tuition discount to Military spouses. Our online MBA programs and Hybrid MBA programs are perfect for Military families, as they’re both reputed and ensure that you can complete your MBA degree from wherever you are in the world.

USO San Diego – thank you for being such a positive and helpful force in the Military support community!
